My tribute to one of my favorite Pokémon characters - Steven Stone, the Hoenn Champion! I've always loved his elegant design and his passion for collecting rare stones. This piece portrays him in his classic formal attire with his signature style and confidence.
Steven's character has always resonated with me as someone who balances being a powerful trainer with having outside interests and passions. I wanted to capture that composed yet friendly demeanor that makes him such a memorable champion.
About the Finished Artwork
This is the completed illustration of Steven Stone, the Steel-type specialist and Champion of the Hoenn region. I focused on creating a composed, elegant pose that reflects his character while using a color palette that matches his in-game appearance.
For the background, I chose a deep purple that contrasts with his light hair while still keeping the sophisticated feeling that Steven embodies. I paid special attention to the details in his suit and the metal pin, which references his love for rare stones and Steel-type Pokémon.
From Concept to Sketch
My initial sketch focused on getting Steven's distinctive hairstyle and facial features right. I experimented with several poses before settling on this one, where he's adjusting his tie – a gesture that I felt captured both his formality and subtle confidence.
The sketch phase is where I worked out the proportions and expressions. I referenced both the game artwork and anime appearances to create a version of Steven that felt true to the character while still having my own artistic interpretation.

I created clean lines based on the selected sketch, paying special attention to his distinctive hairstyle and formal attire.
Step 4: Base Colors
I established the basic color palette based on his official design - the silver-blue hair, dark suit, and signature red tie.
Step 5: Shading and Lighting
I added shadows and highlights to give the character depth, using a lighting scheme that emphasizes his face and creates a sophisticated atmosphere.
Step 6: Background and Final Details
I chose a complementary background color and added final touches to complete the artwork, including subtle textures on the clothing and polishing the small metal pin.
